Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and
Hearing Loss
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is used to treat certain types of hearing loss by improving oxygen supply to the inner ear, potentially restoring hearing function.HBOT is able to enhance the recovery of damaged hair cells or auditory nerves by improving oxygenation of the inner ear.
HBOT is FDA approved to treat Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss (SSNHL).
The American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery supports the use of HBOT in combination with corticosteroids for treatment of SSNHL.
HBOT is most commonly used for:
FDA APPROVED
-Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss (SSNHL): Rapid hearing loss over 72 hours or less (usually just in one ear)
-Acoustic Trauma: From things like explosions or loud noise exposure
-Idiopathic Cases: Where the cause is unknown

Whether reversing hearing damage or supporting inner ear health,
HBOT is proving to be a valuable tool in audiology.
